What a single USDOT lookup can't show you

A carrier profile tells you about one authority. The identity graph connects about 710,000 active for-hire carriers with inactive records, so you see who else is behind the number.

Re-registered carriers

A new USDOT that shares officers, phone, email or D&B number with an older record that was revoked or shut down. The new number has a clean history; the people behind it may not.

Clusters of linked carriers

Several active authorities run from the same officer, phone or email. Sometimes that is a normal family of companies, sometimes it is a ring. You see the whole cluster before you tender.

Changed contact details

Phone, email, address or officer changes picked up from the nightly FMCSA sync. A sudden contact change on an established carrier is a classic sign of identity takeover.

Noise filtered out

Permit and filing services share one phone or email across hundreds of carriers. Those, free email providers and very common names are detected and ignored so the links that remain mean something.

How it works

Data
FMCSA public census, authority and insurance records. Active for-hire carriers are stored in a snapshot that is refreshed every night; inactive USDOT records are checked live at lookup time. Change history starts on October 16, 2026 and grows every day.
Links
Two carriers are linked when they share a D&B number, email, company email domain, officer, phone, fax or address. Stronger identifiers count more, and an officer match alone in a different state is dropped as a likely namesake. Identifiers shared by 25 or more carriers (filing services, common names) and free email providers are ignored.
Review level
Points from named review items add up to Low (under 15), Review (15–34), Elevated (35–59) or High (60+). The weights are set from known re-registration and identity-takeover patterns and have not yet been back-tested against confirmed fraud cases.
What it is not
Shared details are common among legitimate related companies. A link is a reason to ask questions, not evidence of fraud or wrongdoing. Public records contain no VINs, so equipment is not matched across carriers.
