Freight Data Watch

Carrier Underwriting Intelligence

A failure-risk score for any US trucking company, with every point traced to a public-record signal: authority stability, insurance cancellations, inspection and out-of-service trends, crashes and modeled revenue.

Built for the people who fund and insure carriers

Most freight data is sold to shippers and brokers. This is built for underwriting decisions: who to fund, at what limit, and who to watch.

Factoring companies

Screen new clients before the first advance. Catch brand-new authorities, pending suspensions, insurance lapses and parked fleets before they become a bad receivable.

Equipment lenders & lessors

Size the deal against modeled revenue, check whether the fleet is actually running, and spot deferred maintenance in out-of-service trends before you fund the truck.

Insurers & MGAs

See cancellation history, insurer churn, crash frequency against fleet size and driver and vehicle OOS rates against national averages in one view at submission.

Methodology

The score runs from 0 to 100 and is the sum of points from named risk factors, so you can see exactly why a carrier scored the way it did. Bands: Low under 20 (A), Moderate 20–34 (B), Elevated 35–49 (C), High 50–69 (D), Severe 70+ (E).

Authority (largest weight)
Age of operating authority, inactive or revoked status, involuntary revocations and suspensions in the last 36 months, revocation proceedings that were opened then dropped, voluntary suspensions, and pending suspension notices with a future effective date.
Insurance
Policy cancellations in the last 12 and 24 months (separated from routine replacements), number of different insurers in 36 months, and liability on file below the federal minimum.
Safety
Vehicle and driver out-of-service rates over 24 months compared with national averages. Rates are statistically shrunk toward the national mean so a carrier with three inspections is not judged on three inspections. Crash frequency is measured per power unit, along with fatal crashes and the FMCSA safety rating.
Operations
Fleet size, a sharp fall in roadside inspections (a proxy for trucks parked, sold or repossessed), rapid growth, and declared fleets with no inspection activity.
Identity
Inactive USDOT, links to a previously revoked USDOT (reincarnation risk) and a stale MCS-150 filing.
Revenue estimate
Power units × miles per unit (declared MCS-150 mileage when recent and plausible, otherwise a norm for the carrier's long-haul or local profile) × 85% loaded miles × a contract rate per mile for the inferred equipment type, shown as a ±20% range. It is a model, not reported financials.
Data & limits
Built from FMCSA public records: census registration, roadside inspections, crash reports, authority history, revocations and suspensions, and insurance filings, pulled live and cached for up to 6 hours. Factor weights are set by experts from known carrier failure patterns and have not yet been back-tested against default outcomes. Use the report as a screening aid alongside your own verification. It is not a credit report or consumer report.
